8.Adverbs

avoid clutter

Adverbs are ugly. One or two here and there are fine. We all do it. But beware.

Words that end in –ly can ruin a manuscript. Two types of writers use adverts: Weak ones who think it shows description, and lazy ones who cannot be bothered to reconstruct their sentences.

‘A full moon shone brightly in the night sky’. You don’t need the adverb. The adjective already takes care of that notion. The moon is full - what else is it going to do except shine brightly?
