Superfluous information is like weeds – it’ll suffocate your story like they suffocate plants.

'He went home in the afternoon' does not need to be 'He didn’t stay here, he went back home towards the end of the day'.

Put down only the essence of what you are trying to say. Get rid of the weeds. Let your plants shine through.

And when you come to review or edit your work, you may have to eliminate whole paragraphs, even entire chapters. Don't think about it. Just cut them out.
