GIVE YOUR READER A TREAT

Bad dialogue in literature is widely spread and awful to read. Many people skip it, including us. Dialogue should advance plot, show character, add drama. If it does all three, it’s a cracking piece of work.

In your dialogue ensure your characters sound different. Give them their own voice. In real life we all sound different to each other, use different vocabulary and respond to situations in our own way.

Never use dialogue so your characters can chat about anything and everything. Use it because they have something to say that's relevant to the story.

Give your dialogue a purpose.
